5/ traffic jam/traffic congestion/rush hour: tắc đường, kẹt xe, giờ cao điểm
6/cosmopolitan/materialistic/ extravagant lifestyle: lối sống thành thị/vật chất/xa hoa
7/slum dog/street children/living below the poverty line: khu ổ chuột/trẻ em đường phố/sống dưới mức nghèo khổ [MH]
‎- inner city: the area with buildings are in bad condition and low living standard but till higher than slum dog.
remmember that inner city is N, inner-city is adj
- sb’s home city = sb’s native city: if u was born in here
- a cosmopolitan city: a huge city, full of people from different part of the world. (such as New York, California, London, Tokyo or Cape Town)
- an industrial city
- a historic city: old & interesting city’s history, such as Hanoi
some synonyms of city
- city and town: city is bigger than town, Hanoi, Hai Phong is city while Ha Long just is a town, no more. No big deal, right ?
- capital: Hanoi
- motropolis: a big big big and busy city, full of people. HCM may be is a metropolis, New York is a huge metropolis, the city never sleeps.
- urban : relating to town, adj, >< ruban
- outskirts: the area around city, just a little people live there.
- suburb: the area around city but many people live.
- the surburbs.
- living/working/physical/poor conditions.
- appalling/dreadful living conditions = very very bad (good for writting).
- insanitary/unhygenic conditions = very dirty
- etravagant lifestyle = lavish lifestyle
- a busy/ hectic lifestyle
- be stuck/caught/help up in traffic = when u cant move coz traffic jam.
- traffic moves/traffic flows
- slow-moving traffic = slow traffic
- rush-hour traffic
- traffic cpngestion = when the roads r full of, nearly traffic jam
- the volume of traffic through city/village/town
- urban landspcape/expansion/population/unrest
some collocations with ” big city” : 1. SHANTY TOWNS: Shantytowns on the outskirts of cities, lack any access to water, electricity, healthcare or education
2. COMFORTABLE SUBURBS: The Western ranch takes effete youths from comfortable suburbs and turns them into rugged wranglers.
3. INCESSANT ROAR : the water moving with the caves and gorges produces an incessant roar.
4.VOLUME OF TRAFFIC: Volume of traffic on many busy routes
5.EXHAUST FUMES :Ben uses the dirt from exhaust fumes to produce stunning wildlife pictures
6.BUMPER-TO-BUMPER TRAFFIC : very close together, as cars in a traffic jam.
7. SPARAWLING CITY :Accra is a sprawling city, with a mixture of modern buildings, shanty towns, occasional castle and lively markets
8.INDUSTRIAL ZONES : : An industrial city or country is one in which industry is important or highly developed.
9.DEPRIVED AREAS :Deprived people or people from deprived areas do not have the things that people consider to be essential in life, for example acceptable living conditions or education
10.RUN-DOWN BUILDINGS : A run-down building or area is in very poor condition.
11.STREWN WITH LITTER : Strewn with litter and rotting rubbish attract vermin and disease
12.NO-GO AREAS 1. If you refer to a place as a no-go area, you mean that it has a reputation for violence and crime which makes people frightened to go there
2. A no-go area is a place which is controlled by a group of people who use force to prevent other people from entering it.
13. URBAN WASTELAND : land that is uncultivated, barren, or without vegetation
14. IMPOSING BUILDING: building is Impressive, as by virtue of size, bearing, or power
15.HIGH-RISE FLATS/BUILDING : a flats with designating or of a tall apartment house, office building, etc. of many stories
16.INNER CITY : city to refer to the areas in or near the centre of a large city where people live and where there are often social and economic problems.
